Gqeberha police are investigating the killing of two people following a shooting in Motherwell on Monday night.

Capt. Andre Beetge said 29-year-old Siyabulela Olayi and 23-year-old passenger Ulundi Mpulu died in a hail of bullets after their vehicle was destroyed on Tyityiba Street in Motherwell.

Captain Beetge said another car approached them from behind and the occupants started firing.

Siyabulela Olayi lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a container on the side of the road.

Captain Beetge said the suspects continued to shoot before fleeing.

Olayi was shot several times in the upper body and legs and died while being rushed to hospital.

“Mpulu died of a gunshot wound to the chest shortly after arriving at a nearby hospital,” said Captain Beetge.

Words of sympathy and respect have been pouring into Mpulu’s home as he was a well-known businessman in Motherwell.

He was a businessman running a restaurant business called ‘The Pallet Doctor’ in Motherwell that closed its doors temporarily, the day after the news of his death.
