Yandisa Matshoba is a 37-year-old woman whose shack has been vandalized by other community members in the early hours of today at Section C, in Duncan village.

This comes after the separation between members of the ANC in the community. It is said that people came to demolish the shack were allegedly sent by a ward councilor.

Nomvulo Dumile said that they were told that the municipality will build houses for people who stay in shacks and they will be moved to New Life. She continued to say, “There was one roomed house with two shacks in the yard and both of her shacks were demolished before she even got the house”.

Miss Matshoba said that she reported the matter to the ward councilor. The councilor’s response was that only one shack was supposed to be disassembled since she got one house not two.

After what happened Miss Matshoba said, “I went to the Post Office to register to be on the list of people who are in need of shelters and after I got the house, I decided to let my sister and father who is sick to stay in that house.”

Miss Matshoba remained in the one roomed house with her boyfriend, brother and four children. She then called the ward councilor again to tell her that she has material to build the shack that was not supposed to be destroyed.

Mrs Mavuso claims that, “Yandisa came to my house last week to report that there are people who came to tell her that they give her only three days to disassemble her shacks and they were sent by the ward councilor.”

One of the community members who asked to remain anonymous said that those people were supposed to come with an affidavit as authorization that they are sent by the municipality.
