Heavily Armed Robbers Storm Emalahleni Municipal Offices

On Tuesday, March 22 security personnel got a scare of his life when he was held at gun point by heavily armed robbers at the Emalahleni municipal offices. The armed robbers had stormed into the areas where municipal vehicles and municipal equipment are kept.

The security personnel who is contracted to the Emalahleni municipality was allegedly ordered at gun point to search for keys of the vehicles and in the process one of the security personnel was assaulted and injured by the robbers.

After forcefully opening the safe where vehicle keys are kept, they allegedly tested the keys in several vehicles and eventually managed to gain access to a single cab assigned to the Directorate of Planning, Economic Development, Tourism and Agriculture. The vehicle was loaded with municipal equipment which include grass-cutting machines, chain saws, grinders, a generator, and a big toolbox full of an assortment of tools.

“While the incident will surely hamper our service delivery efforts, we wish to inform our communities that we will never be hindered in delivering on our service delivery mandate. A case of armed robbery has been opened and unfortunately, we cannot provide any further information yet”, said Emalahleni spokesperson Luthando Nqumkana.

The police were alerted, and they quickly responded while the robbery was in progress. A case of armed robbery has been opened. The police are still investigating the case.
The police along with the Emalahleni municipality have requested that members of the public who may have any information regarding the robbery incident to report at the nearest Emalahleni police station or contact Crime Stop 0860 010 111.
