A four-goal thriller at Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane on Saturday, saw Chippa United play a 2-2 draw against Royal AM.
Searching for their fourth league win in the DSTV Premiership, relegation-threatened Chippa started the match like a house on fire, scoring two quick goals in the first half, courtesy of Veluyeke Zulu who broke the deadlock for Chippa in the 19th minute with close range finish and Siphelele Luthuli who quickly doubled their lead four minutes later from a counter-attack.
However, close to halftime Thwihli Thwahla pulled a goal back through Mandla Macuphu, following a mistake by Chippa goalkeeper Ayanda Mtshali who spilled a long cross in the box.
Royal AM scored the equaliser in the last minute of the game, courtesy of a side-footed volley by Macuphu after a cross by Mfundo Thikazi to secure a point for John Maduka’s men.
Chippa United interim coach Kurt Lentjies labelled the draw as a “tough pill to swallow” after his team was dominant throughout the encounter but said he was happy with a point from the game.
Following the draw Chippa moved to 13th place while Royal AM climbed to third spot on the DStv Premiership table.
