MINISTER MBALULA HAS EXPRESSED HIS SADNESS OVER THE MPUMALANGA SCHOLAR TRANSPORT CRASH

Fikile Mbalula, the Minister of Transport has learned of a scholar transport crash that has taken the lives of eight young people and left 10 injured.

According to law enforcement authorities, the collision happened on Wednesday afternoon at the crossroads of Mayflower and Dundonald roads in Mayflower, Mpumalanga. A Toyota Quantum carrying 18 learners lost control and crashed, killing 8 learners and injuring 10.

“On Tuesday, I testified before Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Transport, among other things, about the carnage on our roads. It is a demand for safer roads and responsible driving from representatives of all political parties. These are the kinds of calls that come from car accidents that leave us heartbroken and speechless. I was deeply saddened to learn about the tragic deaths of so many young lives on our roadways. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families and hope those who are injured a fast recovery. We are doubling our efforts to make our roads safer as we recently vowed in Parliament” said Mbalula.

The police are investigating the matter as the cause of the crash is still unknown.
