A new drama series that will be shot in East London is holding auditions for talented acting hopefuls across the Eastern Cape today at the East London Guild Theatre.
The Eastern Cape Film Forum is currently working on a new production that aims to put Eastern Cape on the map. The Forum, which was established in 2015 at the Inaugural Eastern Cape Film Festival, held at the Miriam Makeba Center in East London, is hoping to position the Eastern Cape as a film destination similar to KZN, Western Cape and Gauteng.
The Forum says that the new series will be titled ‘Agender’ and was initiated by an East London resident following the East London Film Hub held in East London from 6-10 December 2021. Production Manager for the film Noniko Dlala says, ‘We do this in all the areas, it just so happens that this time we decided to focus on East London and sustain the momentum.”
The auditions will be held at the Guild Theatre from 09:00- 14:00 and is open to the public from ages 19-56 years. The actors are urged to prepare a two minute monologue in IsiXhosa or IsiXhosa and English.
Though nothing much has been divulged about the film itself, Dlala says that the outcome from the film will be a pilot series which is one of the first in the Eastern Cape in recent times. “With the four episodes we will produce initially, we will then use them as a marketing and fundraising tool to finish the series and secure broadcast and distribution deals,” she said.
