Eastern Cape based Premier Soccer League(PSL) side Chippa United announced on Monday 15 November , in a statement that they have put coach Gavin Hunt on precautionary suspension following the clubs ‘worst’ start in the current 2021/2022 DSTV Premiership league campaign.

The club announced that former Chippa United midfielder Kurt Lentjies will be their interim coach in the absence of Hunt and will be assisted by Siyabulela Gwambi.

“Lentjies has been a stalwart for the club and following his retirement from playing ensured that he attained his coaching qualifications.” Chippa United Management said.

The club management added in the statement, “His intricate knowledge of the team, players and culture of the club should ensure that the club will be in good stead during this period.”

Chippa said in the statement their management will begin an internal process to investigate the challenges facing them, following the dismal start they have had in the league since August, having won 1 match, lost 5 and drawn 4 matches out of the 10 they have played in the DSTV Premiership league.

Chippa United are currently sitting in 14th place on the log and only hanging by threads with only TS Galaxy and Marumo Gallants behind them in 15th &16th place respectively.

With 21 matches still left to be played in the 2021/2022 DSTV Premiership league, performance wise, the club said they will look to turn things around.

“We trust that these measures will be the beginning of a turnaround to the season and bring hope again to the stakeholders and fans of the Pride of the Eastern Cape.” Chippa United Management said.
