On Wednesday October 27, the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality Executive Mayor Xola Pakati, with Deputy Mayor Helen Neale May issued an amount of R2.5 Million to 198 Non-Profit and Non-Governmental Organisations (NPO’s and NGO’s) in the BCMM region, with each NGO or NPO getting an estimate amount of R12 600.

The BCMM has spent around R11 Million in the Grants-In-Aid Initiatives since 2016.

The Executive Mayor Pakati indicated that the Grants in Aid funding has made decisive interventions in areas of social life in the BCMM.

“Over the years, community development organisations have benefited, giving them further capacity to carry initiatives such taking care of the sickly and the vulnerable and educating children” Pakati said.

Pakati added, “For us this is a fundamental programme as we believe that decisive social transformation is at the core of development in the city.”

Deputy Mayor Helen Neale May congratulated members of all the NPO’s and NGO’s who got funding and urged them to use the funds in a right manner.

“We urge you to use the funds for the intended purpose and we are sure that if these monies were to be spent properly, they would create more possibilities for future funding in the city” May said.
