Buffalo City is currently busy with a construction of a water world fun park is. Buffalo City Metro Development Agency has invested R103 million into the project to additionally develop the tourism and entertainment of East London and furthermore expand the capacity of entertainment along the beach.

This will assist to lessen crowding in the conventional areas such as the Esplanade people congregate in large sums.

The plans of the investment by the City aim to reinvigorate property development in the Westbank area vast in real estate development prospective given its scenic wide sea facing views. The Water World project will provide a one of its kind water fun fair park for not only for the Metro but for the entire Province of the Eastern Cape.

The 5.9 hector project is expected to feature facilities that include new entrance areas, braai area facilities, informal trade stalls, ablution facilities, climbing walls, an amphitheatre, podium seating, sand pits and swimming pools. 

The official site handover to the contractor took place on the 12th of February 2020.

Xola Pakati, BCM executive mayor added that the City tasked the BCMDA with the implementation of the water world fun park project as part of the City’s vision to grow the tourism sector.

“We believe the water world project will breathe new life into our public spaces and it will stimulate the local economy in ways never seen before,” said Pakati.

In terms of work opportunities, the project through the Buffalo City Metro Development agency (BCMDA) has committed to SMME development and as a result, nine construction SMMEs on site with three of these SMMEs coming from ward of the project.

The project currently has 112 jobs.

The scope of work and expected project duration remains unchanged and will take 18 months to complete not resisting the delays due to COVID 19.
