Founder of NAM Foundation crowned Miss South Africa Plus- World

Apiwe Ngwekazi Makaba born and bred in the small town of Ngqamakhwe in the Eastern Cape Province is the founder of a non-profit organization called NAM Foundation which aims at assisting children and adolescences in the rural areas, it solely focuses on improving the lives of disadvantaged children and youth in rural areas by providing school shoes, sanitary towels and access to higher education information. Their goal is to unify, empower and restore dignity through education in their community, promoting self-development and self-awareness.

Her pageant journey started in May last year when she entered for the provincial pageant, Miss South Africa Plus-World Eastern Cape. They carried this pageant throughout the year and she was voted for Miss SA Plus-World Eastern Cape by 19094 votes in November 2020 in Port Elizabeth.

She won the Public Choice Award, advanced to the top two, and was selected for the Miss SA Plus-World National Pageant. She was selected as one of only a few South Africans to participate in the YALI (Young African Leadership Initiative) program, which was launched by former US President Barack Obama with the goal of empowering young African leaders across the continent.

Makaba entered the Miss SA Plus-World competition with the intention of serving, leading, and being a purpose-driven queen, and she was crowned Miss Personality 2021. She won the Miss South Africa Plus-World title after competing against eight other finalists and four provinces namely; Gauteng, Eastern Cape, Kwa Zulu Natal and North West.

“I want to teach both the boy child and the girl child. I want to teach them that they must normalize this kind of beauty, to teach them self-awareness, to learn to accept, love, take care and embrace their bodies”, said Makaba

Makaba said she wants both the boy child and girl child to learn about leadership opportunities for them to open their minds to learning, knowing that they are beautiful, amazing and are everything, and to holistically live a purpose driven life.

She will be representing South Africa in Texas in March 2022 and doing more charity work through their NAM organization.
