KumkaniFM & Vicky Vicky foundation lend a helping hand

By Irshaad Gangat

Situated in Southernwood in East London at 21 Gordon road is a foster home,
Ubuhlebethu organization which houses 7 children. Since 2017 children are brought to the home by social services.

Some of the children are HIV positive or have been taken away from their homes because they have lost their parents to the disease. Some are taken away from their parents who are victims of substance abuse. The youngest is 3 and the eldest 14 years old.

Mandisa Ratya, the founder of the foundation expressed her gratitude to Kumkani FM for donating groceries, clothes and snacks as well as to the Vicky Vicky foundation for donating toys for the children. She further said that donations like these bring joy and excitement to the children because they get to enjoy being with people other than those at the home.

The eldest from the home said she has never felt like she doesn’t belong. This has been her home for as long as she can remember and would not have it any other way. She also said they treat each other with love and kindness because they regard each other as siblings.

The founder urges anyone who can lend a helping hand to please do so by contacting them via their Facebook page
https://www.facebook.com/ubuhlebethu1203.org or phone ‪063 177 3843‬. People can also visit the home in Southernwood in East London, situated at 21 Gordon Road.
