SAPS swift reaction lead to arrest of suspect with stolen property

EASTERN CAPE – SAPS members’ swift reaction and good communication between stations in different districts made the successful arrest of a suspect with suspected stolen property possible.

At about 16:55 on the 30 August 2021 Steynsburg SAPS received information from Hofmeyer SAPS about a suspicious vehicle, Maroon Dodge that already passed through town.

Members of Steynsburg then immidiately rushed and about 10 km from Steynsburg noticed the suspicious vehicle. A chase commenced and the vehicle came to a standstill.

A 38 year old suspect was arrested and a large quantity of computers including the screnes , boxes, keyboards, lab tops and fax/copy machines with an estimated value of R250 000-00 were confiscated from his vehicle. He was not in a position to provide any proof of purchase.

It is alleged that he was from Gqeberha (PE) on his way to Bloemfontein.

A case of possession of suspected stolen property was opened and he will appear on the 2 September 2021 at the Steynsburg magistrate court.
