On Tuesday, August 10 as part of the Women’s month activities the Mayor for Emalahleni Local Municipality Councillor Nontombizanele Koni embarked on a social responsibility project. The project was to rejuvenate small businesses and light pathways to future prosperity for Emalahleni residents.

The social responsibility project was developed in 2020 where the councillor Koni decided to have a food bank, they had to engage businesses and individuals to support the initiative for them to provide food parcels to the needy.

The food vouchers were distributed to 255 people in which 15 beneficiaries were elected in the 17 wards of Emalahleni. The councillor had partnered with Spar in the distribution of vouchers that where the people can spend their R1000 voucher.

“The purpose of the social responsibility project is to provide relief to the distressed households. We understand that this is not enough, but it is the little that can do while we are busy creating conducive development”, said Councillor Nontombizanele.

Councillor Koni, members of the Executive Committee Councillors and the Municipal Management in the evening had switched on Solar Streetlights at Indwe, Dordrecht and Cacadu.

In total about 172 Solar streetlights were installed in the three towns of Emalahleni Local Municipality. In phase 45 during the construction, employment opportunities were created based on the duration of each project as there were three separate projects. The  Emalahleni Local Municipality had contributed multimillion Rands on the solar Streetlights project.

“On service delivery, we are doing our best to give quality service to the people of Emalahleni responding to their needs as documented on the integrated Development Plan. We were handing over completed projects in forms of Solar Streetlights in all our three towns. Paving is finished and in progress on other areas of our municipality. There are many projects that will handover to the community. Our approach is to ensure that we do our outmost best with the little that we have”, said Councillor Nontombizanele Koni.
