Yamkela Ntwalana was born and bred in the remote rural area close to Mthatha situated in old Lindile Location in the Eastern Cape Province. The 29 year-old Music Education (ULME) graduate from the Walter Sisulu University published his first book that he co-authored with his learner Mbasa Gogotya, a poetry book titled ‘Tyatyadula Siba Lwam’ in 2020.
In the same year, Ntwalana published his first novel titled ‘Intlungu yevezandlebe’. Ntwalana stated that he started writing ‘Intlungu Yevezandlebe’ in 2016 and published it last year.
“After seeing communities and society ill-treating family members born out of marriage, I then decided to write a book. It serves a therapy to most and teaches the society to see things differently” said Ntwalana
He added that victims of such acts have been hurt by many people and that people tend to turn a blind eye to these acts and that most of them are suffering silently and most end up with depression and anxiety.
He further stated that this novel is a voice to the voiceless as he used characters in the novel so that everyone can relate. According to Ntwalana, the novel has no specific target audience as the content of the book affects everyone. He said he wrote this novel to preserve our precious language of Isixhosa and he dedicates this book to all those who love literature.
