EASTERN CAPE – Excellent work by Jansenville Crime Prevention members resulted in the arrest of two suspects aged 34 and 39, and the recovery an illegal firearm, live rounds of ammunition and a large amount of abalone in Bridge Street, Jansenville this morning at 05:35.
It is alleged that at about 05:35, Jansenville Crime Prevention members were conducting Patrols, ensuring compliance to the Disaster Management Act Regulations, when they stopped two Nissan Almera sedans.
On approaching the two vehicles they noticed a total of 39 black plastic bags which contained a large amount of abalone. During a further search of the vehicles, an illegal 9mm firearm and live rounds of ammunition was recovered from where it was hidden.
The estimated street value of the abalone is about R432 000-00.
