On July 22 the two accused appeared in court, and their case was adjourned to July 29.

On March 5, the two allegedly booked a bolt cab in East London, and a female driver picked them up and drove them to their destination in Cambridge. Upon arrival, there was a squabble over the trip payment.

The accused allegedly threatened the bolt driver and forced her into their flat, where King and Mdleleni allegedly raped her. On the same day, both were apprehended.

On March 8 the East London Magistrates Court granted Mdleleni R1000 bail, while King dropped his bail application.
