DECLARATION OF CATEGORY 2: SPECIAL PROVINCIAL OFFICIAL FUNERAL FOR THE LATE STRUGGLE STALWART MAMA IVY CIKIZWA GCINA

The President of the Republic, His Excellency, Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa, has approved a request by Eastern Cape Premier, Hon. Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane – MPL, to accord the late Eastern Cape-born liberation struggle stalwart Mama Ivy Cikizwa Gcina an official send off.

Premier Mabuyane has received with gratitude the decision by the President to grant Mama Gcina a Category 2: Special Provincial Official Funeral, as a mark of respect and affirmation of the towering role she played in the fight for women emancipation and the liberation of all, particularly in the region of Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth), playing a key role in the fight to bring an end to Apartheid.

Mama Gcina passed away at the tender age of 84, on the morning of Thursday the 27th of May 2021, following a long illness.

The Category 2: Special Provincial Official Funeral service for the late Mama Ivy Cikizwa Gcina will be held as follows:

Date: 04 June 2021

Venue: Feather Market Hall, Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth)

Time: 09h00

The President has directed that all National Flags shall fly at half-mast at every flag station in the province, on the day of the funeral service.

Premier Mabuyane, who will also be delivering the Eulogy of the official send off for the late Mama Gcina, has, on behalf of the people and Provincial Government of the Eastern Cape Province, once

again, conveyed his condolences to the Gcina family and the African National Congress, her political home, NGOs, and other civil society formations she worked with throughout her years of activism, for

which she suffered brutally at the hands of the infamous Security Branch of the Apartheid state.

May her soul rest in peace.
