The Eastern Cape Department of sports, recreation, arts and culture, MEC Fezeka Nkomonye on April 6, handed over equipment to over 400 artists including fashion designers, at an auspicious event held at the Gompo hall, in the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality.

She explained that government took this initiative as part of responding to the presidential call for economic recovery.

The Eastern Cape Department of sports, recreation, arts and culture has handed over laptops, keyboards, speakers, microphones, cameras, sewing machines, to name a few, to local artists in a bid to ensure economic sustainability by supporting, encouraging and training these artists to ensure that they are selling their products on the e- commerce of virtual platforms available.

Honorable MEC Fezeka Nkomonye added that they have engaged with these artists, asked for their views and they indicated that this kind of equipment will help them in rebranding, recapitalizing, re-skilling them while ensuring that whatever they produce is of a high standard and will be sold using e-commerce virtual platforms.
