Take a sho’left to Experience the Bedford Country Gardens in 2021

By Nombongo Nxele

Founded 16 years ago, the annual Bedford Country is an Eastern Cape midlands lifestyle experience that has visitors returning again and again for a dose of down to earth country fun. For three days gardenias and nature – loving families explore country roads and linger in lovely farm gardens and discover soul-mates.

Open farm gardens offer refreshments, some serve light lunches and a couple set aside spots for picnickers. One of the best entrepreneur’s in the Bedford Community who owns the Eagle Hout Upcycled garden and Tourism, Dr Lana Blom said, “Our project won an Impumelelo Silver award for sustainable job creation in 2010.  The Thembani Hout Integrated Projects is a non-profit company established to create a cleaner and greener environment through recycling, responsible waste management and greening activities.”

With the covid-19 outbreak last year it gave the Bedford Community a chance to rethink their spring event and come back stronger.

Key decisions have been agreed on in the course of numerous formal and informal discussions over the past weeks. Here are some of them:

  • New name (Bedford Country Gardens),
  • Two weekends October 22-24 and October 5 to 7.

This time there is twice as much opportunity to stimulate the local economy with a two weekend programme and three new gardens.
