Chuma Qhoboshiyane is a son of the soil from Libode, Misty Mount. Qhoboshiyane owns a co-op in the Nyandeni Municipality titled, Sizanenguqu Agricultural Primary co-op, which is registered since 2010.
“We started planting the pumpkin and butternut in 2020 November with a good harvest” said Qhoboshiyane.
He attended training at the National Skills Fund and now is well on his way to producing fresh produce for his community. As a result of the training “we improved more and more through our training receive. ”
The co-op wishes to expand his offerings to do crop and a vegetable production. Qhoboshiyane added that he and the other co-op members opted to producing fresh produce because there are no jobs available and” that we need to create our jobs.”
Local shops in the Libode area order small quantities of stock at a low price “for example Spar was needing 20 pumpkin last week.”
He adds, “The local market supports us, then we deliver our products by hand.”
“Ok you can contact me to order produce,” and Qhoboshiyane adds that the co-op needs more advice and training on how to market his product.
