SUSPECTS IN ALLEGED MOB JUSTICE KILLING ARRESTED: PORT ELIZABETH
A Motherwell detective arrested two suspects, aged 35 and 34 years old for the alleged killing of a 50 year old man in NU 29 on 29 December 2020.
It is alleged that on 29 December 2020 at about 01:30, Goodman Gegese was taken from his house in New Town in Motherwell by an angry mob. They accused him of committing housebreakings in the area.
He was severely assaulted and thereafter brought back to his residence and dumped in his front yard where he passed away.
Intensive investigations were conducted in the area by investigating officer, D/W/O Marrilyn Jungli and her constant persistence paid off when the two suspects were arrested yesterday, 12/01. The first suspect, a 35 year old male was arrested at about 11:00 at Motherwell detective office and the second suspect was arrested at about 14:10 at a shopping complex in Motherwell. Further arrests are expected.
Both suspects will appear in the Motherwell magistrates’ court on Thursday, 14 January 2021 on charges of kidnapping and murder.
Motherwell Station Commander, Brig Michael Solani commended the detective officer for her perseverance and dedication in making a breakthrough in the case.
“Vigilantism cannot be a justifiable act of punishment for anyone. The community must refrain from making assumptions without verifying the facts. If they are suspicious of any person committing any crime, they must inform the police who will do the necessary investigation. Many times the community takes the law into their own hands and no cases are reported against the person they allege to be a suspect. I appeal to the community of Motherwell to work with the police and to report all criminal behaviour to law enforcement and to stop acts of vigilantism,” warned Brig Solani.
