Hon MEC will be visiting two schools in Alfred Nzo on Thursday  the 29th of October 2020 as part of OR Tambo birthday month government programme to visit communities in this region to fast track service delivery.

The MEC’s first stop will be Baleni High School in Bizana where the community cried for help earlier this year when they realized that their coffers for building a school hall were running dry. The construction site has been incomplete for months as walls were not plastered, and there were no funds to roof the top.

While on oversight visit to the school earlier this year, MEC Madikizela committed to fundraise and complete the project. Contractors are on site, and the Honorable MEC will visit the site to see how far is the project from completion.

The highlight of the day will be Hon Madikizela’ s visit to Cangci Technical High School in Amampisi administrative area where the MEC will donate with a newly constructed Engineering Graphic Design(EGD) Lab using an innovative model together with drawing desks, drawing instruments and scientific calculators.

The MEC has introduced the Technical School Support Programme (TSSP) which is in line with his Modern Mandela Plan that he pronounced in Parliament during his Policy and Budget Speech in the last financial year. The department has opted to pilot TSSP in Alfred Nzo Region due to its status of being the poorest district in the country. This school has more than 900 learners.

“Due to dedication for a better life OR Tambo who comes from the same region as you and was once your age graduated top of his class in matric and proceeded to the then-named College of Fort Hare to study sciences, he was expelled for participation in student strike. He later returned to his former High School in Johannesburg to teach Science and Mathematics. We as the department are donating this Lab together with all the equipment and scientific calculators to motivate you to be dedicated in your school work so as to leave home one day to study further so as to come back and give back to this community.

There is nothing stopping you from being the likes of liberation struggle icon Oliver Reginald Tambo or anything that you aspire to be” said Madikizela as he motivated the learners at Cangci Technical School.

He further asked Matriculants who were interested in furthering their studies in Engineering and Construction industry to apply for bursaries with the department.
