BSA Board Nominations

By Andrew Matyila

The Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa, is calling for nominations for the board of Boxing South Africa from the boxing fraternity and the general public.

The current board members’ term expires in December 2020.

According to the South African Boxing Act (Act 11 of 2001), the minister should appoint board members in consultation with boxing licensees.

Nominees are expected to possess a broad range of skills.

These include expertise and knowledge of women’s and amateur boxing, media and marketing, development and transformation, managerial, financial, legal expertise, fundraising, corporate governance and a willingness to render community services.

All provinces seem to be well prepared and have long been waiting for this formal nomination request from the minister.

Eastern Cape boxing licensees have Advocate Mava Malla, Mr Loyiso Mtya and Mr Khaya Ngqula among their lists of nominees for the Chairman seat.

They are also in search of a suitable woman in order to balance their nomination list.

The 12th of October 2020 is set as the final date for nominations to reach DSAC (Department of Sports, Arts and Culture).
