26 year old man Arrested for rape

A 26 year old man has been arrested for abduction and rape at Mpheko Plantation Locality in Mthatha on August 17 at about 12 noon. 

The suspect was arrested following the report of an 18 year old girl who was abducted at the locality whilst she was still 14 years old and got pregnant at the age of 15.

Police spokesperson Captain Khaya Tonjeni said it is alleged that the victim was sent to another locality by her mother and when on the way she was abducted by the suspect who was 21 years then.

“The victim reported the matter to Khula Community Project who in collaboration with Mthatha FCS and Vispol on August 17 attended to the complaint. The victim and her three 3 year old girl were rescued and are at a place of safety. The suspect will appear before Mthatha Magistrate Court on Tuesday the 18 August,” he said.

Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga commended the arrest.

“We are a country founded on respect of human rights and supremacy of the law. No one should infringe and violate another as this is a serious offence punishable by law. We urge the public to work with civil society and police to eradicate this crime,” she said.
