Millionaire NSFAS Student back in Court

By Mbulelo Sisulu

The case of the ‘millionaire’ Walter Sisulu University student, Sibongile Mani, 29, who received more than R 14 million in her student account from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), will resume at the East London Regional Court on August 14.

Eastern Cape Division Regional spokesperson, Anelisa Ngcakani, said Mani is accused of theft as she allegedly spent just over R800 000 of the R14 million.

“The amount was credited to her during June 2017. The accounting student was only entitled to R1400. It is alleged the millions were erroneously deposited into her account by Intelli-mali. The company is contracted by the NSFAS to make payments to students,” said Ngcakani.

Mani is currently out on bail.
